8/10/14- Open Gym Swim WOD

Reminder that the Summer schedule ends August 24th 

Fall schedule to begin August 25th. 

CrossFit Apex Kids classes will change for Fall schedule stay tuned.

Tots class will finish the week of August 18th. They will meet as normal on Tuesday, August 19th at 10am and they will also meet on Thursday, August 21st as their make up from July 21st.  

Juniors class next Thursday at 10:30 will be cancelled.

Another great day at the pool.
These eight swimmers went through a warm-up with swimming and "bleacher dips," our regular freestyle stroke progression as well as some "kick-and-go" sprints before taking on today's swimming WOD.
I figured we would use today's participants as "guinea pigs" on the swimming portion of the Apex Burden March scheduled for August 24th. This was really helpful for me as I continue to tinker with the standards for the Burden March event. I definitely made some discoveries during the course of today's trial and will be planning accordingly for the event in two weeks.
We had exactly eight swimmers which worked out perfectly for four-person teams.
Here's the deets...


Each team had to complete one mile in the pool (72 laps) while three objects were being held off the ground. Each swimmer had to complete at least 8 laps and teams could have as many (or as few people) holding items as long as all three items were off the ground.
Todays items were a 20# medball, a 25# weight vest and a 35# kettle bell.
I was pretty surprised with the times and how even the race was. Strategy is going to most definitely come into play during the actual event.
