I shuddered a bit when I saw that Fran was today. Last time we met (which was the first time) she whooped my butt and I didnt even have a decent time. Because of this, I wanted to make sure I felt fresh and strong when we would meet again. Thanks to this WOD following two other benchmark workout days, and feeling rather beatup, I knew this showdown would make to break me.
Fortunately it made me. I went 4:48 from the previous 7:34. Almost a 3 min improvement. Its still not were I want to be as the 3's is my target, but it definetly built some confidence and motivation.
This week has been pretty awesome so far as it only shows how far I/We have all come, thanks to the support of each other and crossfit.
Cant wait to continue to see what challenges lie ahead as the week begins to wind down.
alllllrighty then! so apparently Fran looses a bit of intensity when you do it in the backyard by yourself using your kids' swingset for pull ups. i took my time from 5:33 (my first fran time with the Cottage WOD crew) to 5:57 today, bymyself...and dare i say using 5lbs LESS!!! Yikes! i going to go crawl into a hollow log and hide now....i think i need to do more weights- it's been 3 weeks and i can tell!
Scrappy, you are killing it this week! Keep it up...this is what we've been hearing you wanted since you started with us and you are showing awesome improvements! Quit being so damn hard on yourself and enjoy dropping 3 minutes off your time...that's doesn't happen very often.(and I know you're saying to yourself well that first time really doesn't count and yadda yadda yadda I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT!)I am so proud of your accomplishments to this point and you should be too!
Khara, she's not so friendly to take on alone...good for you! You will find in crossfit that most wods completed with a group will show improved times and scores than when completed solo. I think that is was makes Crossfit the "sport" of exercise. Still I give you props, way to continue the journey and I'm so proud of your dedication! Don't let today get you down...just kill it tomorrow :)
Molly, just curious...did you hack into our trainer calendar that shows all of our workouts for the month? Just kidding...I'm sure it was a coincidence..next time!!!
As for me, rest day :) I don't think my pecks have recovered yet from cindy, so I'm happy to rest them today.
Scrappy I am really impressed. How in the world do you make such an incredible jump in such a short time. Does that mean you were slacking off the first time?:)
I have to admit even though I was not planning on Fran today after your time I was a bit intimidated and I am still scared of Fran so maybe LATER is all I can say.
So I pulled an old WOD from our Valley day's score sheet Rower Burpee. I couldn't understand why my time was so much longer than our past times.I was pushing so freakin hard. Then.... I figured it out I did an extra 500m's of rowing and an extra 75 burpees. There's where your extra 10 minutes comes from.
Here is what I did today: 1000m row and 25 burpees 750m row and 50 burpees 500m row and 75 burpees 23:10 (drip, drip, drip goes the sweat) AGAIN GREAT TIME SCRAPPY 3 and change is in the near future.
Lol...I wish I was slacking the first time. Im really not sure whats going on. I definitely expected a more gradual improvement process. Instead, its like 3 weeks ago, something just changed.
At first I thought it could be the ROIDS that Buss gave me...but that doesnt seem like it would affect anything =0)
Looks like we may never know!
Ill just chalk it up to the great training we recieve from the wondeful crossfit APEX staff!
ps - (for that endorsement, I expect a free week!)
So it's been a long time since I've posted...but that's because it's also been a long time since I did a WOD on my own at home. Why does summer and the summer schedule have to come to an end? I liked my summer group wods!
Fran is hard to get through on your own for sure. My first Fran was Rx'd weight for Thrusters, and kip/jump pull-ups with a time of 6:08. Used the same weight and same mod pull-ups this time with a time of 6:23. Not to make excuses, but some of my time increase was spent trying to position and reposition the bar during my thrusters to not hurt my thumb so badly. So, if I was working with a fully functional left hand (and maybe had Cindy & FGB not preceded the lovely lady Fran, maybe a would have had the same time, or better!)
I have enjoyed revisiting these WODs though and seeing what the differences are. I was pleased with progress on Cindy (15 rds +5, 10,10) an increase of 3 rds from last time, and progress on FGB (Rx'd, 255) an increase of 8 reps and a move to Rx'd weight from the last time.
As for the blasted thumb problem...after giving it a week's rest, it seems to be just as flared up as ever from just these 3 WODs so far this week. It's quite discouraging. I'm hoping this doesn't mean the end of my Crossfit days... :-(

I missed Fran for the second time. I don't know if that is a good thing, or a bad thing....someday I will find out
Good old Fran!
