Another great workout at the pool today for Swim WOD #2.
I saw some improvement in the swimming ability of our returners and got to meet some Apexers making their first appearance (here's looking at you Julia, Karen and Katie).
We spent time doing some treading challenges, talked about proper flutter kicking technique and continued to work through some freestyle stroke drills before getting to the actual WOD, which I am calling "ALCATRAZ."
Here are the details and scores...
ALCATRAZ (15 minute AMRAP) 1 lap water walking (hands on head) 1 lap flutter kick on back 1 lap underwater swim 1 lap "Tarzan" swim 4 laps = 1 round
Mark D. 5+1 Julia 5+1 Karen 4+2 BDD 4+1 Anthony D. 3+3 Chris G. 3+2 Katie D. 3+1
I think BDD got a picture of the group on his phone so we will have to track that down and get it on the Apex website and Facebook page later today! Thanks for coming everyone!
Ha, that's funny Bekah. I know us swimming coaches can be extremely cryptic with our language. Tarzan swim is what I call swimming freestyle with your head up looking straight in front of you. Tarzan swim is essentially the building block for the sighting techniques open-water swimmers use to monitor the location of buoys during a race and also the way water polo players "dribble" the ball down the pool. Plus it's great for building shoulder and kicking strength.

Sorry to miss that one, Lou! I'd say I would give it try down here but I have no clue what a Tarzan stroke is!
