Remember....... NO open gym!
Who's up for a Swim WOD?
Swimming Wods every Sunday 12-1pm @ Souderton Pool. Must pre-sign up at Apex. NO Open Gym in July or August.
Swim Trivia:
1. Captain Matthew Webb of England was the first person to swim the English Channel, what stroke did he use?
2. In the 1984 Olympics, which country swept EVERY swimming event?
3. About how many inches wide is a blue whale's belly button?

Someone has got to pull Bus away from his trivia question a day app!
My guesses:
1) breaststroke
2) USA!
3) 10 inches?
Great picture Bus. You were totally dominating that baby pool!
As for the trivia...
1. Captain "what's his face" did swim breaststroke through the English Channel. And he also swam to his death a few years later when he tried to swim across the water above Niagara Falls.
2. Not sure where this info is coming from but no one country swept all the medals at the 1984 Olympics. The US did dominate but there were also medal winners from Canada and some other countries. The other thing to remember is that many Eastern European countries boycotted the 1984 Olympics as a response to the US boycotting the 1980 games. So not all the best swimmers were in attendance.
3. BIG
Darn boys.....you are trivia firebreathers!
1. Breaststroke.....he did die trying to swim across the falls
2. US
3. 8 inches
Any APex'ers doing the Spartan Race next weekend? I am in the 8:45 heat on Sat.
I think I'm doing the 9am heat on Saturday. I'll be looking or ya!
All,
Nice job at the swimming WOD today. I thoroughly enjoyed working with all of you and hope you guys got both a good workout as well as some useful swimming pointers and drills.
Please be aware that even though I was told us being there should not be a problem I did have to do some tiptoeing around the fact that we were holding a class at the pool. I think once they saw our organization and our numbers the pool staff realized that we are kind of "taking advantage" of their $1 lap swim Sundays. After speaking with the managers after the WOD I think we are in a good spot. However, please be aware that we need to be mindful that we are being watched.
The play is that we are a group of people who go to the same gym and who are trying to workout in the pool together as some of us prepare to do some Triathlon races later in the Summer. Because I am a swimming coach I have volunteered to help run the workouts. If we come in on Sunday mornings and follow the rules and keep our numbers under 15 I think we should be fine. If we grow in numbers or start overstaying the 1-hour lap swim time frame we may begin to have problems.
Anyway, here are the results of todays WOD, which I am calling "Little FIN," an homage to my son Finlee.

50 yards freestyle
10 pushups
15 Air Squats

Thanks so much, Lou I had a blast and learned a lot. I can honestly say I feel more comfortable in the water after just that one class.
Will miss next week due to our vacation. But you can bet we will be doing some swimming wods while there. and I will practice balancing my "scully-ing" lol .
Thanks for coordinating with Soudy pool and taking one for the apex team. I hope they continue to allow us to come. If not we might have to relocate to the Depetrio's! ;-)
