Lord and Lady Week 1 Recap

It was a cold and snow morning at 116 Emlen Way. As the athletes started to trickle into the box there was a different vibe in the air! You could tell it was not a normal Saturday. The athlete's had pep in their step and nervous twinkle in their eye .

As the athletes loosened up their joints and muscles, there wasn't much discussion among themselves. They were focused on the WODs and which order they would attack the workouts.

Tanya was in charge of WOD 1- 5 Burpees and 10 Pullups. Josh was stationed at WOD 2- 7 Front Squats and 7 Push Press. Keith was stationed at WOD 3 - 5 Power Cleans and 10 Box Jumps. The majority of the athletes started with the Cleans and Box jumps. Before Josh started the count down you could cut the tension in the air. As Josh yelled 3....2....1....Go, the athletes' nervous twinkle turned into determination and they were off! The athletes poured everything they had into all the WODs and when the chalk dust finally settled Kutty and Angie prevailed on top with the most work completed.

As the little hand of the clock reached the 9 and the big hand clicked on the 12, it was time for the Jr. Lord Comp to kickoff. There was a lot on the line for one young athlete, Alex Zimnock. Alex was so confident that he would take the title "Jr. Lord of Apex", he wagered his Locks! As Keith counted 3...2...1...Go, Alex was able to block out the buzzing sound of clippers in the back of his head, and DO WORK. He cruised through WODs 1 & 2 and held a 24 rep lead going into the 3rd and final work out-(5 Pwr Clean and 10 BJ's). Derek Rush was geared up and ready for this WOD, he couldn't let Alex Sweep 3 WODs in week 1. Keith counted down for the last time 3...2....1...Go, both athletes sprinted out of the gate. Derek took an early lead on Alex, but with his locks on the line, Alex poured every ounce of energy he had left and was able reel Derek back in. As the last second ticked away all 3 athletes Alex, Derek and Austin collapsed to the floor and gulped for air! After the final reps were tallied, both Alex and Derek tied with 106 reps each. His locks live to see another week!

I want to Thank and Congratulate everyone on an AWESOME week 1! I can't imagine how the next 5 weeks are going to play out! Congrats again to ALL the athletes especially Angie, Kutty and Alex for placing first!

Stay tuned for the results of week 2! Will Alex reserve the right to talk trash for 2 weeks in a row? Or will Austin and/or Derek knock him back down a couple of notches?

I'm happy to see the 19 and under girls are wide open - Makenna was really looking forward to competing, but I ended up breaking my big toe at the base and between the weather, new to crutches, and Cheyenne's swim meet I was not able to get her there. Next Sat....
